Marchmont 2 v Peebles County Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 07 Jun 2014 at 13.00
Peebles County Cricket Club Lost by 9 wickets

Match report County headed up to Edinburgh's Cavalry Park for the third time this season to face home side Marchmont 2nd XI. Their previous two visits had produced a brilliant result on the first day of the season against Accies and then a high scoring defeat last week against Livingston.

This visit ended in an absolute rout as Marchmont crushed the visitors by nine wickets,in what was a very bad day at the office for County. This was the only game of the three to be played on the main grass wicket.Despite its ostensible
benign appearance, the track gave up its dark treacherous secrets in the hands of Marchmont's bowlers.

It was an unfortunate toss to lose, and the home captain lost no time in inserting Peebles. Once again they were quickly in trouble as both openers
departed cheaply. From then on it was a constant procession back to the pavvy for County's clueless batsmen. There is no way of sugarcoating what
was a truly abysmal performance. True, Marchmont are one of the promotion contenders in this league, and they took full advantage of the sticky heavy pre-rain conditions to swing the ball alarmingly and extract maximum turn form the wicket...... but at times County looked as if they had never played cricket in their lives.

The large number of dismissals by bowled betrays County's deficiencies with the bat and these will have to be remedied PDQ if County are to survive in this division.

All out for a mere 34 in the 28th over (one better than the all-time lowest score) Peebles could do little to stop Marchmont quickly pile on the necessary
total before the predicted biblical rains arrived.

Only Waddle 17, emerges with any credit. Realistically County were unlikely to achieve a result away to this team, but they will however be disappointed at the scale of the defeat. It is fortunate for them that they have a little credit in the bank as a result of two good wins and some bonus points, for there is no rest for the wicked as they face Penicuick next week at home; the only team to have defeated Marchmont!
