St Boswells CC v Peebles County Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 17 Apr 2010 at 1.00pm
Peebles County Cricket Club Lost

Match report On a windy, sunny Saturday afternoon, Peebles 2 met the Border League’s third best team (last year’s ranking) in a pre-season friendly. P2s decided to bat and were quickly in trouble. Richard Adams ran himself out and Nathaniel Buckingham played all the way round a ball that did not get up. The wicket looked great, but was deceptively slow and the St Boswell’s bowlers, who changed every four overs, were infuriatingly accurate. The senior member of The Adams Family looked good from the start, finding the gaps in a well placed field, while Murray P held his own with admirable concentration at the other end. Was this the partnership that would be talked about in distant bars throughout the cricketing world for weeks to come? Sadly not. Dave A checked a shot that might have sent the ball sailing over the road, but was gathered gratefully by McNeil off his own bowling instead. After that P2s did not collapse so much as lemming dived in slow mo from the height of their ambition, trying desperately to move the score along. Finally Murray P hurried, when earlier he steadied, and was bowled. Briefly, with panache and perseverance, James Knight stirred the sleeping grasshoppers along the deepest boundary twice before being caught miraculously one-handed by Hunter, diving to his right. St Bs fielded well and bowled tight and proved an experienced, well disciplined opponent.

The first four overs of St B's innings gave away nine runs before The Dark Knight opened his throttles and tore their playhouse down. In 10 balls four of the home team’s top order batsmen were back in the pavilion. Only Richard Young, their opener, could withstand the onslaught of a stupendous spell of high velocity fast bowling. R Elms, going in at No 6, hung around nervously for long enough before skying one from The Swanster to mid off. After that, once The Dark Knight had used up his overs quota, Hunter, the heroic catcher, accompanied Young for the remainder of the match. Richard Adams bowled well without any luck and Niall Burns looked dangerous during his short spell. The fielding was admirable, especially from Reggie de Beer.
