16 Sep 2009 : U17's take Borders final
ONE of Peebles' most successful cricket seasons was crowned at the weekend by victory for the up-and-coming stars of the game.

The Peebles & Biggar Under 17s team - dubbed the Young Cavaliers - beat hosts Galashiels by a whopping 64 runs in the Borders final.

The win comes hot on the heels of Peebles first and second teams both gaining promotion this season.

After heavy rain the previous few days Galashiels Cricket Club did a tremendous job in getting the ground fit for the final which was played under a dry but cloudy sky.

Peebles Captain Alfie Pace elected to bat after winning the toss. Despite a slow openers Andrew Harrison (18) and Douglas Voas (retired 33) put on 57 for the first wicket which fell in the 11th over.

At the end of their 20 overs Peebles & Biggar finished on 119 for two with super contributions from Harrison, Voas, Waddell and Maxwell.

The Galashiels innings got off to a very explosive start with 11 from the first two overs leaving Peebles & Biggar a little worried.

But when Alistair Maxwell took the key wicket of Kris Mein in the 3rd over followed by two maidens by Kieran Ramsay worried looks began to disappear.

Alfie Pace then dismissed the other Gala opener Gregor Ormiston and Gala were 20 for 2 in the 7th over.

A partnership of 17 between Duncan Miller and Rory Hancock took the score to 36.

Richard Adams and Alfie Pace got the wickets of the remaining recognised batsmen after which Gala resistance crumbled to a fine bowling and fielding display by the Peebles & Biggar team.

Julian Pace, the Peebles & Biggar team manager, told the Peeblesshire News: "This team has been together for over three years and it was nice to see a great performance from the whole team in all departments rewarded with the Borders Colts Cup"

24 Mar 2008 : Committee Update
David Duthie Auto Repairs has kindly agreed to sponsor our junior section. We are applying to Sportsmatch to have these funds matched by Sports Scotland, enabling us to spend more money on junior facilities and activities.

The Awards for All application that the club submitted, seeking lottery funding to fund some major purchases, including a mower and an artificial wicket, is still outstanding, but we anticipate a response from the BIG Lottery Fund soon.

The Flicx pitch has arrived and is already being put to use.

We urgently need a new mower, and this is a priority for future spending.

The committee are also seeking to fund the purchase of two new training nets for Whitestone Park.

Members will be provided with club polo shirts (or cricket shirts if they don’t yet have one) as soon as is financially possible.
